As was said to me in the early stages of my “Discovering the North-West Passage,” to do a book right, one has to be almost obsessed. I couldn’t agree more. At the same time, you are an inspiration Fabiënne, and not just to anyone contemplating taking up a pen, but to people everywhere to dream BIG - because dreams do indeed come true.

Fabiënne. I share your relief, sad though it is, that we now have closure regarding James's tragic end.

It's very bittersweet! But ultimately closure is good.

some people in the media have a tendency to report on disaster, historical and modern, with all the fervor and sensationalism of a tabloid press. I have seen and read a lot of disaster and history related media and you can feel the passion and love you have for your subject in your work, and I am so heartened by how humanly you see him. You should be very proud of yourself, in a way, his name has finally been returned to him. I very much look forward to following this substack and your future endeavors ❤️

Thank you so much for your very kind words! <3 It's not so nice to see the media sensationalise Fitzjames' death, all of the cannibalism headlines. Thankfully some articles talk about him as a person, too. I can't wait until people can get to know him better when my biography comes out.

I have thusfar read a bit of your website too and it is so nice to be able to see a bit of the person he was ❤️ thank you so much for making so much of that more accessible to people. will now be eagerly awaiting your biography as well :)

Yes, thankfully there are a few well-written and empathetic articles out there. I hope that when my book comes out I'll get many opportunities to talk to the media about Fitzjames' life and him as a person. Besides a biography I also have about 500 pages of his correspondence that I have fully transcribed and want to publish. A great way to get to know him firsthand! Thank you for your support, and I'm glad you enjoy my website. :-)
